Area Guides.

Spain really does have something for everyone and one of your first decisions will be to decide on which area is the best fit for you. Here are our guides to some of the most popluar areas to consider....

Explore the Southern Costa Blanca

La Zenia

La Zenia is part of the string of Orihuela Costa urbanisations in the Alicante province, situated on the eastern coast of the beautiful Mediterranean. Despite only occupying an area of less than 2 km2, its an established holiday destination offering plenty of facilities for tourists and residents alike, not least of all the famous La Zenia Boulevard which at 161,000 m2 of retail heaven is a shopaholics delight! Busy in the summer and quieter in the winter months, La Zenia is home to more than 100 nationalities and enjoys a truly international feel.

How to get there

Easily accessible and well served by flights from all of the major European airports, travelling down from Alicante airport takes only 45 minutes, whilst the new Corvera International Airport in Murcia is even closer at only 40 minutes drive from the centre of Orihuela Costa.  And with UK flights starting from less than a tenner each way, a long weekend in the sun is often cheaper than catching a taxi into your local town centre.

Things to do

Although La Zenia is relatively small, it’s an easy-going and family-friendly resort with everything you need within easy distance and an abundance of quality facilities.  For beach lovers, the Blue Flag awarded Playa Zenia offers the choice of the main Cala Basque (offering more than 27000m2 of pristine golden sands) and the smaller Cala Cerrada beaches. Both are fantastic places for the family to enjoy a day basking in the sun with relaxing beachside restaurants and bars as well as a selection of water sports for the more active. The wonderful La Mirada restaurant is a favourite, offering fabulous views over the beach and out to sea.

For those looking for a (slightly) more energetic way to spend a day, there are three 18 hole Championship golf courses, literally on the doorstep.  The trio of Villamartin, Real Club de Campoamor and Las Ramblas golf courses are just a few minutes away, whilst for the addict a further 30 world-class courses can be found within a 30-40 minute drive, making this region of the Costa Blanca a real golfing mecca.

Weather

Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed!  Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete.  Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!
