Ciudad Quesada

Set on a hillside Ciudad Quesada (or as it is simply known, Quesada) is situated approximately 8 kilometres inland and a 10 minute drive from the Blue Flag beaches of Guardamar del Segura. Its elevated position offers magnificent views across the Mediterranean coastline and the famous salt lakes of Torrevieja.

Development of Quesada began in 1972 when the Spanish entrepreneur Justo Quesada Samper began work on his dream of creating a completely new town, a dream which was finally achieved in 1999 with the opening of the Quesada Town Hall and official recognition with the granting of the status of ‘Town’. Originally designed around the 18 hole La Marquesa championship golf course, Quesada is a collection of smaller urbanisations including Dona Pepa, Pueblo Lucero, Lo Marabu, La Fiesta, Lo Pepin and Pueblo Bravo which collectively encompass some 30,000 properties. Instantly recognisable by the twin Quesada Arches marking its main entrance, Quesada has a lively atmosphere and a vibrant multi-national feel with approximately 40-50% of residents being Spanish with the remainder hailing from dozens of different, predominantly European countries.

How to get there

Easily accessible and well served by flights from all of the major European airports, travelling down from Alicante airport takes only 40 minutes, whilst the new Corvera International Airport in Murcia is even closer at only 35 minutes drive from the centre of Orihuela Costa.  And with UK flights starting from less than a tenner each way, a long weekend in the sun is often cheaper than catching a taxi into your local town centre.

Things to do

With a large town square and busy high street, Quesada enjoys a year-round tourist trade and has a broad range of entertainment and local facilities, including a water park, free municpal tennis courts, numerous walking and cycling routes as well as the two colourful local salt water lakes which together combine to form a wonderful nature reserve around which are many opportunities to enjoy the local birds and wildlife.

The town itself is well served with shops, bars and over 70 restaurants offering diverse international cuisine including Spanish, Thai, Indian, French, Greek, Italian, English and Chinese.  Whatever your preference, you will find plenty of options to tickle your taste buds!

Weather

Blessed with a climate that the World Health Organisation declare to be one of the very healthiest in the world, the area is noted as having ‘as near perfect an environment as it is possible to obtain’ – high praise indeed!  Year-round sunshine and low humidity are a perfect combination and with the Costa Blanca enjoying an average annual temperature of 19o, highs of 40o+ and more than 3000 hours of sunshine over 320+ days, few other regions can compete.  Water temperatures average 25o even in the autumn meaning you can take a dip in the Med well into late October whilst daytime temperatures often still reach well into the 20’s throughout December making this the perfect spot to escape the British winter!

Property in Ciudad Quesada

Construction in the area has historically been restricted to two-storey height, with villas and townhouses forming the bulk of housing stock in Quesada. Quesada has a vibrant new-build market and offers a choice of both modern, contemporary designs and more traditional architecture. With choices ranging from great value apartments on low density developments to  spectacular new-build villas, discerning buyers also have the option of buying their preferred plots and then choosing one of a selection of designs or even creating a completely bespoke property in your own style.
